I am currently using OS Yosemite and am thinking about updating to El Capitan. Mac os disk utility raid el capitan upgrade#So, the OS upgrade is free, but for most RAID users, it's going to cost at least $50. OK, so how does one configure and manage RAID volumes in El Capitan?Īfter a bit of research, I have discovered SoftRAID Lite ($50) as the logical replacement for Apple RAID. And you can format, although since I've stopped using it I'm not sure if it has the same options as before. ![]() You can still run repair and restore, and it gives info in nice colorful iOS type bars. That might exist somewhere on your recovery disk, and easy enough to do I suppose (still) with diskutil from the command line, but it's gone. But no, Apple doesn't want you messing with permissions anymore. It only ever applied to Apple system files, not user-added files, and hence was of very marginal use despite constant advice to repair. Repairing permissions was always a bit of a useless act, IMHO. repair permissions, erase/format drives etc? So, is there another means of performing the functions of Disk Utility, e.g. And Tech Tool Pro just got an upgrade, so now that works. Mac os disk utility raid el capitan drivers#Eg I had a scanner finally give up cuz a utility I use that ran up to 10.10 to use TWAIN drivers finally died. As in if some of your applications don't work with 10.11, but most have been upgraded. IMHO one should upgrade unless there are good reasons not to. Some others had some problems with upgrading, but as I understand it they've fixed stuff in the latest iterations of the installer. The SIP thing did cause problems during my upgrade it locked up the machine during shutdowns. They weren't enough to prevent me from upgrading. The latter changes are here to stay, so I'm stuck with them. Security Integrity Protection: horrible for me it makes permission changes that basically make it impossible for non-privileged admins to make changes to some system stuff, essentially rendering some utilities useless. Probably a bit faster, some bug squashes and probably security fixes.Ĭons: Disk Utility has become dis-utile it's a waste of space now. More iPhoney Mail gestures (I don't like all iOSifications, but I do like this one). ![]() Finding lost cursor (shake mouse cursor blows up).
